Hi! XD I would believe it, yes. Of the whole comic Shadowchild is the character I got any muse for, but man, he would be so hard to try and define or play, especially because there was a lot left unsaid about his nature/motivations once he grew up a bit. I agree with you about Ed, too. He's definitely one you'd want to keep as he is, not just because of that dichotomy but because of the sheer difference in culture, I think. It's so different that in combination with the kind of character Ed is, it would make it hard to play him humanised.
As for your concerns about Digger I was too busy flailing to address: I can't offer a character who would shake her and go 'SHHH', but there seem to be a few already in the game who might. Alternately, if she's taken in for memory rehabilitation a few times that might help her realise that swallowing a bit of tackiness is probably necessary to avoid having more magic done.
Regarding the icons, maybe a comic/animanga PB? A live-action one feels like it would be weird, for Digger, but surely there's something drawn out there which you could use as a base rather than having to draw a set from scratch.
